LAGBRAU FULL FALL OPTION (10-day)
and LAGBRAU LITE (3-day) ITINERARY

The "Full Fall Option" includes three more days of riding on the front end. The participants will fly into Las Vegas on Tuesday evening Sept. 2 to stay somewhere in Vegas on your own that night, or fly in early morning on Wednesday, Sept. 3. We will load your bicycles and bags as soon as you arrive at the airport during the morning and lunch hour with the goal of leaving in the motorcoaches by 12 noon and shuttling to Zion National Park, 173 miles away, in less than 3 hours (losing an hour as we cross the Mountain Time Zone into Utah). You should arrive in Zion by 4 p.m. Those of you who are driving from the west and/or bringing your own sag support for the week, can start to enjoy Zion National Park as early as you can arrive during the day. If you arrive the night before, I recommend the Abby Best Western or the Templeview Campground and RV in St. George, which are less than an hour drive away from Zion. Also, there are several hotels in Springdale such as the Desert Pearl Inn. The campers will be staying the campus lawn of Southern Utah University.

Day 1 of 10
Thursday, Sept. 4
: The motor coaches will depart at 7 a.m. to travel just roughly 350 miles to Grand View Point in Canyonlands National Park. We will have breakfast and lunch along the way. Cyclists will be dropped off at Grand View Point and will begin riding out of Canyonlands 44 miles flat and down hill to Moab with an optional loop to the amazing Dead Horse Point State Park of about 16 miles. Camping and Lodging will be in Moab. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

Grandview Point in Canyonlands National Park to Moab (44 miles)

Those who drive to Moab for the 3 day or 10 day option may choose to leave their car in Moab at the Portal RV Campground, or at their hotel, and ride out on Highway 191 to the turnoff to Canyonlands National Park, which is 9 miles from Moab. Or, on Thursday morning they can drive their car out to the turnoff and leave it just after the turnoff at the pull-out next to a trailhead and scenic vista. If you ride out from town to Grand View Point in Canyonlands National Park, it will be 88 miles round trip, and 104 miles if you take in the 16 mile loop to Dead Horse Point State Park. From Grandview Point you will descend 2,000 feet during the 44 miles back to Moab. If you drive your car 9 miles out to the turnoff and pick it up on the way back to Moab, you will subtract 18 miles from the ride that day. If you have a non rider to drive your car, you can subtract 9 miles from the ride and ride your bike the 9 miles back into town which is gradually downhill with a wide shoulder on Highway 191. If you drive your car both ways to and from the turnoff, the bike ride will total 70 miles, or 86 miles if you include the 16 mile loop out to Dead Horse Point State Park (a sight well worth seeing).

Those who fly into Vegas will be shuttled to Cedar City on Wednesday afternoon, the day before the ride starts, and will stop in Zion National Park on the way to Cedar City. On Thursday morning, they will be shuttled to Grandview Point in Canyonlands National Park by the early afternoon and will ride their bikes that afternoon 44 miles flat and downhill 2,000 feet into Moab, or 56 miles if they add the 16 mile loop out to Dead Horse Point.

All riders, whether they drove or flew, will be provided lunches, rest stop snacks and refreshments, and plenty of sag support. There will be 33 passenger bus, a 20 passenger shuttle bus and a 15 passenger van for ample sag support. Those who drive to Moab may also request a shuttle ride into Canyonlands National Park that Thursday morning for $20/participant, if they prefer the same 44 mile or 56 mile bike ride as those who flew into Vegas and will be arriving at Grandview Point State Park in the early afternoon.

Day 2 of 10
Friday, Sept. 5
: In the past, riders would spend this day on the highway that runs from Moab to Blanding. Due to heavy traffic, narrow shoulders, and road construction, we decided to find a safer route that would be more enjoyable for everyone. On this day, riders will do an in-and-out route along Hwy 128 which starts just outside of Moab. This road winds along the amazing Colorado River. About 30 miles up the road, you will come to Dewey Bridge which is the turnaround point for this day. Lunch will be served along the route and there will also be two rest stops along the way. Dinner will be served starting between 6pm and 6:30 pm.

Average temperatures for the Moab area in September:

53° Low

Sorry! We don't have elevation charts for this route yet; however, you can view the entire LAGBRAU route on Google Maps.

Day 3 of 10
Saturday, Sept. 6
: After breakfast, LAGBRAUers will ride a few miles out of town to the entrance of Arches National Park and then up to 18 miles into the park. Enjoy it as long as you wish, knowing that you have about 22 miles back to town. Lunch will be served in the park. for dinner at 7 p.m. Friday's ride can be from about 44 miles long to as much as 70 miles or more. Its up to you!
In the early afternoon, the 7-day group will pass through Moab in the motorcoaches on their way to Blanding for the start of the 7-day tour the next day. We will meet up with this group and everyone will be shuttled to Blanding (about 75 miles) for dinner and the official opening ceremonies. We hope to get you to Blanding early enough so that you can enjoy the Edge of the Cedars State Park and Museum, and to the Dinosaur Museum before dinner, which will begin at approximately 6 p.m. See the regular LAGBRAU itinerary link below for what to expect for the remaining 7 days.
Those only riding for the 3-day option will be able to ride the buses that brought the 7-day group into Blanding back to Moab after the opening ceremonies. We hope they will want to come back soon and join us in the future for the 7-day or full 10-day option!
